Earth: Pentastar in the style of demons

If there is such a thing as high art then I would say Earth comes close to achieving that on this album. Dylan Carlson is a wizard with compositions and arrangements and this is him at the peak of his powers. It is majestic and powerful and the drone pounds relentlessly. This is a solid album from a truly gifted band and the songs deserve a detailed review.
Introduction:
The instantly recognizable chord progression! Every Earth fan knows
this one. It immediately sets up the goosebumps that is about to come
with
High Command:
A quick song and has a simple two riff and features four verses of vocals from Carlson. Zen kicks ass.
Crooked Axis For String Quartet:
A meditative ambient piece. it showcases four stringed instruments, and is the first of the three ambient tracks.
Tallahassee:
“The world it spins on a crooked axis
Left it twitchin’ by the road”
This song just kicks ass.
Charioteer (Temple Song)
A return to ambient rock, one riff, three guitars, five minutes. Soothing interlude.
Peace In Mississippi:
A Jimi Hendrix cover. With a great guitar solo. Fucken badass! my
favorite Hendrix cover of all time. This is an insanely good song.
Sonar & Depth Charge:
a solid 7 minutes of just two chords played on a piano. Very quiet, very
trancey, and beautiful. Jarmuschian minimalism meets drone.
Coda Maestoso in F(flat) Minor:
This is a fantastic song, complete with a little lead guitar break out
and some organs. It has my all time favorite riff and I break out into
sweats of excitement everytime this pops out.
This album is what religious experience means to an atheist dude like me and I am all the more grateful for it. I love this band and suggest you grab all the Earth albums off the record store as soon as you can. You will not regret listening to them drone on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and.
